Overview

This document will detail changes made to the behavior of the Insight Teacher install packages as of the 7.8 release.

Details

As of more recent versions of Insight an extension is installed into Google Chrome to aid in web blocking, prior to version 7.8 this was installed on all systems that would have Insight Teacher or Student installed.

Due to customer feedback the software has been altered to prevent the Teacher install from installing this plugin. Due to this the ability to "Become A Student" is now disabled on the product by default. This will hinder some customers who previously used this feature, and it can be re-enabled as per instructions below;

- PC Teacher: Launch the Teacher installer with the ALLOW_BECOME_STUDENT=1 option. e.g. msiexec /i Teacher.msi /qn ALLOW_BECOME_STUDENT=1

- Mac Teacher: The Mac Teacher has two new values to modify this behavior. They can both be set with a command-line after the Teacher install has completed, with administrator privileges, of course:

sudo /Library/Application\ Support/Faronics/Insight/lsconfig AllowBecomeStudent 1

You MUST restart the Teacher to see the BAS menu un-grayed, and you MUST restart Chrome to use the extension. If the customer does NOT want the Chrome Extension but does want to BAS they can run this:

sudo /Library/Application\ Support/Faronics/Insight/lsconfig InstallChromeExtension 0

These two values are mostly decoupled. If you have AllowBecomeStudent == 1, you get the extension and you can BAS. If you additionally set InstallChromeExtension == 0, then you can BAS but you get no extension. If you set AllowBecomeStudent OR InstallChromeExtension to 1, you get the extension.
