How to make the Teacher Console window visible when it’s launched.
By default the Teacher.exe will be launched every time someone logs into the workstation, but the Teacher Console Window is hidden until you either click on the Teacher icon in the System Tray, or use the hotkeys CTRL+Alt +L. If the Teacher Console is already running (which it normally would be) and you execute another shortcut to Teacher.exe, it won’t do anything.
The way we’ve handled this in the past is to suggest that you modify the Teachers Run Key in the Registry to cause it to start in either “Kiosk Mode” or “Visible Mode”. Kiosk mode makes it so the Teacher Console is always up, it can’t be Minimized or Terminated. Visible Mode doesn’t set any restrictions on the Teacher, it just causes the window to not be hidden when it is launched.
Here are the instructions on how to setup Kiosk Mode, from the LanSchool Install Guide. The steps to set up Visible Mode are identical, except that you replace everywhere that it says “KiOsK” with the word “Visible”.
To run the Insight Teacher console in Kiosk mode follow these instructions:
1. On the Teacher computer, the Insight Teacher.msi file.
2. Open regedit.exe.
3. Browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
4. Add KiOsK to the Insight Teacher Key C:\Program Files\Faronics\Insight\Teacher.exe KiOsK
5. Click OK.
The next time the system is rebooted, the Insight Teacher Console will run in Kiosk Mode.
