Overview

This document will detail the recommended practice for configuring Faronics Data Igloo to redirect changes made by Windows wireless network settings.

Introduction

Deep Freeze provides administrators with a way to protect workstations from changes by rolling back any change made to the computer at reboot. Deep Freeze does not make any distinction between changes that are malicious, or changes that are desired on a workstation and this can pose some challenges in managing dynamic resources which you may want to keep between system restarts.

A common interaction that we find on customers workstations is between wireless network access point settings and Deep Freeze.  Access point settings can often involve complex or long configurations and this document is designed to alleviate such issues.

Configuring Data Igloo

After downloading and installing Data Igloo, create two redirections onto an area which is not Frozen by Deep Freeze:  One Folder and one Registry Key Redirection

Folder Redirection

On Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc

On Windows XP systems:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Wlansvc

Registry Key Redirection

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wlansvc

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles

The Faronics Technical Support team suggests to apply changes on a non-production environment to ensure that no negative changes are applied to your functional systems.
